Silent Hill 2 Remake Moth Puzzle Solution

In the Silent Hill 2 remake, instead of just finding a key and leaving, you must first unlock the door to the bedroom, now sealed with a combination lock in the newer puzzle game. As the noisy eclipse of moths swarms around your head, it can be hard to concentrate, so be sure to look around for every last detail in the Silent Hill 2 moth room, or room 202, and check out our Silent Hill 2 review for more about the horror remake.

Silent Hill 2 moth room puzzle

The key to this puzzle is ensuring you find every moth display – there are five: the chair, two plinths, and two wall-mounted displays. Count the skulls, circles, and crescent moons on the moths’ wings, and use the answers and padlock sums to solve the lock puzzle. In our playthrough, there were two skulls, five circles, and eight moons. The markings by the lock, as seen in the image above, then tell us that the first answer is the equivalent to the moons minus the circles: 3. The second digit is skulls plus circles: 7. Finally, you need circles minus skulls: 3. The combination lock solution, therefore, is 373.
Naturally, if you’re missing any displays, the numbers won’t add up. Two of them in particular are easy to miss: the one behind the chair and the one in the other room. There is a cabinet that you must move out of the way to find the wall-mounted display in the second room.
Now you’ve solved the Silent Hill 2 moth puzzle and are through the door, you’ll see the faithful recreation of the moth room from the original horror game. And, yes, James must once again stick his hand in that hole. From here, you have all you need to start getting the hell out of the Otherworld – this time. More nightmares and puzzles await though, including a tricky Brookhaven padlock puzzle, the revolting Silent Hill 2 roach room puzzle, and many more.
