Minecraft 1 25 5 Update Release Date Estimate Mob Variants And More

Annual Minecraft updates have been announced during a yearly Minecraft Live broadcast for years, but Mojang revealed in late 2024 that there will now be more regular, smaller updates spread throughout the year. The Minecraft Bundles of Bravery update arrived in October 2024, while December’s larger Winter Drop added the Pale Garden to the ever increasing list of Minecraft biomes. Here’s what’s coming to the sandbox game in Minecraft 1.25.5 and beyond.

Minecraft update release date estimate

We estimate that the Minecraft Spring drop will be released on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. We can make an educated estimate for this based on previous snapshot and update release dates. The first of 2025’s two Minecraft Live streams has been confirmed for March 22, 2025, and we can safely assume that this will include an announcement for the Spring drop release date. Given that updates usually arrive on a Tuesday, and that the features are nearly ready to go, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Spring drop the Tuesday after the broadcast: March 25.
We stand by this estimate now that we have moved into pre-releases, with 1.25.1 pre-release 1 having been rolled out on March 11, 2025. For 1.25.4, the release came just under two weeks after the first pre-release. Again, based on the Minecraft Live date, a Tuesday release date, and a similar timeframe, this still puts the 1.25.5 release at March 25.

Next Minecraft update features

The Spring Drop has no major changes like new biomes or building blocks, but this is no bad thing. Instead, the next Minecraft update drastically changes the existing world and atmosphere. This seriously changes how the game feels overall.
One change is the addition of biome-based pig, cow, and chicken variants. These new mob designs are similar to the wolf variants of 2024, and add variant animals to warm, cold, and temperate biomes. Sheep have also been split into their own biomes, but their design remains the same, with brown, grey, and white sheep appearing in different locales.
Alongside these mob changes, the desert is getting spruced up with the addition of cactus flowers and dry grass, as well as its own atmospheric sounds. This comes after previous snapshots added leaf litter, leaf particles, wildflowers, and firefly bushes to greener biomes. This next Minecraft update puts a massive onus on environmental changes, and it’s beautiful.
