Complete Monster Hunter Wilds Quest And Main Mission List

Monster Hunter Wilds offers main story chapters with different sub-chapters within them, and within those are assignments to hunt certain monsters that become optional quests later on. Yes, that’s almost as confusing as remembering the names of all the Monster Hunter Wilds monsters or deciding which Monster Hunter Wilds weapon to main. Thankfully, we’ve created a complete list of every main mission, side quest, and assignment so you can keep on top of your to-do list.

All main Monster Hunter Wilds quests

You can find a list of every chapter you’ve completed so far in the Mission Info section of the in-game menu. In the post-game, you’ll have another chapter to complete that introduces new mechanics. Beating a monster for the first time creates a repeatable assignment you can take on by speaking to Alma.

Chapter 1 – 1

Desert Trotters

Dropping you straight into the action, Desert Trotters has you fight your way through the desert to rescue a child. From here, it’s your first main monster fight as you go up against Chatacabra.

Chapter 1 – 2

Back to Camp The Beginning Village of the Whispering Winds

Now you’ve got your first battle out of the way, it’s time to meet some friendly faces and get used to the crafting mechanics. Talk to Nata, Gemma, and more, and craft some armor at the smithy before learning the importance of food.

Chapter 1 – 3

To the Forest Forest Findings

From the camp, you must now make your way to Scarlet Forest where you fight two new monsters: Lala Barina and Congalala.

Chapter 1 – 4

The Investigation Continues A Hunter’s Pride

In order to evacuate villagers from an ensuing threat of Doshaguma, you must convince The Elder to take everyone to shelter. In doing so, you must fight off a Balahara, and defend the village from the Doshaguma pack.

Chapter 1 – 5

Pursuit of Solitude Beyond the Deluge

You get a brief moment to rest at another base camp before heading off to your next boss fight. This time, it’s Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Carve the fallen monster once it is felled.

Chapter 2 – 1

A Looming Shadow Toward Fervent Fields

Chapter 2 introduces you to a new mechanic, the Capture Net. Use the net as you head towards the Wudwuds to capture Endemic Life that can be used in crafting recipes. Use them to your advantage before you hunt down and defeat Rompopolo.

Chapter 2 – 2

An Unforeseen Storm The Eye of the Storm

Watching a fight between the White Wraith and a Rey Dau shows you how the Wraith weakens its enemy, giving you a leg up on your own battle with Rey Dau.

Chapter 2 – 3

A Desolate Destination Hopes of Home

In Hopes of Home, you’re adventure takes you to The Iceshard Cliff, where a new climate mechanic comes into play. Keep an eye on your stamina, which decreases faster here, and keep yourself warm with hot drinks. You don’t get long to acclimatize before you’re battling more monsters: Nerscylla and Hirabami.

Chapter 2 – 4

A Disquieting Dawn Long-Forgotten Flame

You’re about to fight another two monsters, but your first priority is making use of Gemma and the smithy, as she’s disappearing for a while. As such, be sure to upgrade your gear before heading off to battle Ajarakan and Nu Udra.

Chapter 3 – 1

Born from the Flame The Faithful Keepers

In The Faithful Keepers, you’ll meet and battle your first Guardian: the Guardian Doshaguma. You’ll also get to witness the emotional reunion of Nata and his Uncle Tasheen, but they’re soon separated again, this time by Guardian Rathalos.

Chapter 3 – 2

Indomitable Spirit Nothing Frozen, Nothing Gained

In an effort to reach Suja, you’ll find yourself in a three-phase hunt against the Jin Dahaad. This is another cold battle, so be sure to prepare yourself for the cold before you embark on the Nothing Frozen, Nothing Gained quest.

Chapter 3 – 3

Through the Dusk A Path Forward Full Circle

It’s time for double trouble as you encounter not one but two monster fights. The first sees you defeat Guardian Ebony Odogaron before Xu Wu attempts to retrieve its corpse. Defeat Xu Wu, too, completing the Watcher of the Ancient Capital and A Hunter in the Void assignments as you do so.

Chapter 3 – 4

Dawn Breaks Broken Chains

The Guardian Arkveld is the main monster battle in this section, after Alma summizes that the monster is after the Dragontorch. Instead, another Guardian is in control of the Dragontorch: Zoh Shia.

Chapter 3 – 5

Visions of Hope Monster Hunter

Stop Nata from sacrificing himself to the Dragontorch by defeating Zoh Shia yourself. As you return to Suja victorious and reunite Nata with his uncle once again, the main story is complete. Now, you’ll enter Monster Hunter Wilds High Rank.

Chapter 4 – 1

A Visitor from the West New Ecosystems

On returning to base camp, you can speak with Olivia to find out what’s next for your monster hunting adventure, and you’ll be asked to contend with Yian Kut-Ku for Sassafrill. Instead of killing this monster, you must instead capture it to successfully complete the mission.

Chapter 4 – 2

Chasing Change Rendezvous Lurking Shadows

Now in a higher rank, you’ll face more difficult monsters than ever. This is no more immediately apparent than when facing Frenzied Nerscylla.

Chapter 4 – 3

Touring History To Wyvern’s Rest Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns

To continue, you must reach HR 20, at which point Olivia will approach you to continue your journey. You’ll accompany her to hunt down a Lala Barina, at which point you discover Tempered monsters.

Chapter 5 – 1

Premonitions Omens Storm-cold Vortex

Once again, you’re facing cold as well as monsters, and must prepare yourself for both. To complete this quest and the Frozen Lord on the Precipice assignment, defeat Jin Dahaad.

Chapter 5 – 2

The Root Cause A Torrent of Energy The World Turned Upside Down

In the most boss-fight-dense section of the game yet, you’re dealing with more Frenzied monsters after the outbreak has reached the Iceshard Cliffs.

Chapter 5 – 3

A Break in the Clouds

To give yourself a break after the exhausting battles of the previous section, A Break in the Clouds encourages you to complete some side quests and raise your HR in preparation for the final battle.

Chapter 6 – 1

Links in a Chain What Lies Ahead

To complete the main quests, you must defeat the challenging Arkveld, rescuing it and everyone else from its Frenzied state. While the story may be over at this point, you can continue with any side quests you may not have completed.

Most of the MH Wilds side quests only become available after you’ve completed Chapter 4 of the story. That said, some early-game side quests will appear as you reach new settlements before that point. These double as explainers for in-game mechanics like Monster Hunter Wilds fishing.
